March 5/12 10:00 am - Vitess Founder Elected to OCA Board of Directors

The Annual General Meeting of the Ontario Cycling Association was held yesterday Sunday, March 4th in Toronto, Ontario. Vitess Founder Julien Papon was elected to the Board of Directors of the organization, which is now composed of seven individuals.

“It is a privilege to join the Board of the OCA at such an exciting time for cycling in Ontario. I look forward to working with fellow Directors, Staff members and the cycling community at-large and to contributing to the discussion and the growth of our sport,” says Papon. “It’s about making sure that the organization leverages and engages a relatively new wave of bicycle riders who join mass events such as Gran Fondos and other organized rides, as well as cycling clubs throughout the Province, and support their growth as passionate cyclists,” he added.

“But it’s also about pushing the boundaries of the grass-root development of the sport, especially so with youth, while further strengthening the stellar position of the OCA high-performance program and helping develop the champions of tomorrow; with the Pan-Am games around the corner, it will be for Ontario and by extension Canada to shine, right at home”.

“The new Sportive category to be rolled out in 2012 is the perfect example of what can and has to be done to support non-racing passionate riders and get them to experience racing in the most exciting, safest and convenient way.”

“Corporate Canada is getting engaged - look no further than Mattamy Homes’s Peter Gilgan or TD Bank’s Tim Hockey, and their instrumental support to get the Milton Velodrome initiative off the ground; some great things are happening – the competitive cycling landscape is changing and the OCA has never been more relevant in its role of facilitator of the growth of the sport and in bridging the gap between cycling communities and other stakeholder groups.”
