March 28/12 8:20 am - Plank-a-thon Fundraiser for Cyclist

Tracy Dort suffered a catastrophic cycling accident descending Scenic Caves Road in Collingwood while training for the Collingwood Centurion last September. Tracy severed her spinal cord and is a quadriplegic. She is currently residing in the Lynhurst Rehabilitation Centre in Toronto. A group of cyclists and non-cyclists in Toronto is holding a “plank-a-thon” on April 2nd to raise funds for Tracy and awareness of spinal cord injuries. Tracy will be at the event to encourage the “plankers” on.

We think this is a worthy cause and of interest to cyclists in general, given the circumstances of the accident and would appreciate if you could announce this event.

What is a plank? You can find some information here.

A group of cyclists and non-cyclists in Toronto are participating in this event and some of the “plankers” will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for holding a plank, which is 1 hour and 20 minutes; one participant has already done an hour and a half in training! Tracy will attend the event to encourage the plankers on.

A web page has been set up to accept on-line donations for a fund for Tracy and her family (she is a single mother of three sons). You can access the web page by going to www.poolofsweat.com/plank-a-thon. Unfortunately, tax certificates cannot be issued as the proceeds are going to an individual.
