A group in Dundas, Ontario, is collecting donations for a plaque to be placed at the top of Sydenham Hill recognizing the accomplishments of Clara Hughes. Hughes, the only athlete to have won multiple medals in both the Summer and Winter Olympics, was living in the Dundas area and trained on the Sydenham climb at the time of her double bronze medal performance in cycling at the 1996 Atlanta Games.
The plaque would recognize both her achievements as an athlete and her contributions to both humanitarian and charitable causes, such as Right To Play. The campaign has been named 'Clara's Climb'.
Anyone interested in donating to the campaign should make out their cheques to "Clara's Climb" and send them to the Dundas Museum and Archives at 139 Park St. W., Dundas, Ontario, L9H 1X8, or to Domestique Café Cyclo Sportif, 12 Miller’s Lane, Dundas, Ontario, L9H 2S9.
