2012 Beaver Valley Bike Ride - Supporting the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics

Beaver Valley 180 Bike Ride takes to the road in support of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Ontario. The Beaver Valley 180 Bike Ride will take place Friday, October 5th, 2012 beginning in Oakville, ON. The ride moves over 180 km through Southwestern Ontario and will touch many of the grass root supporters of the Special Olympics movement. The essence of the ride, "Athletes helping Athletes" will afford people with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to achieve their goal of competing in sport.

The ride initially began in the Fall of 2001 as a way for members of the Beaver Valley and Collingwood ski communities to initiate a Fall fitness program. The Beaver Valley 180 Bike Ride has raised money for various charities over the years. For the past three years Special Olympics Ontario was chosen as the beneficiary. "We are extremely proud and honoured to be associated with the BV180 Ride. Cycling 185km is chalenging even for the fitess and most exerienced rider. 'Athletes helping Athletes' is a motto that is befitting of both organizations," says Glenn Macdonell- President & CEO of Special Olympics Ontario.

The ride begins in Oakville at 7:00 a.m. sharp on Friday, October 5th from the Dearcroft Montessori School (1167 Lakeshore Road East, Oakville, ON L6J 1L3) and travels through the communities of Burlington, Waterdown, Carlisle, Fergus, Flesherton and finishes at the ski club in beautiful Beaver Valley.  Law Enforcement officers will escort riders, providing security and safety of the riders and general public at large. For more information or to make a donation, please visit the Beaver Valley 180 website: www.beavervalley180.org or email: bv180@beavervalley180.org
