On Thursday, Federal, Provincial and Municipal politicians gathered together in Milton, Ontario, to officially unveil the plans for the velodrome that will be built for the 2015 Pan Am - Parapan Am Games.

Total costs for the project are estimated at $56 million, with actual design and build costs of $47.4 million. The federal government will cover just over $38 million, with the remainder to come from provincial, municipal and donor sources. Actual construction is expected to begin in early 2013, with the facility opening in September of 2014.

The 250 metre track will meet UCI international standards, allowing it to host international level events. The three-storey, 14,240 square metre facility will also include an indoor running track, infield courts for multiple sports (basketball, badminton, etc.), a fitness centre and sports training lab services. During the Games there will be seating for 2500 spectators.

The consortium Ontario Sports Solution (ONSS) was awarded the contract earlier this fall. The consortium consists of developers and constructors Bouygues Building Canada Inc. and Kenaidan Contracting Ltd., as well as the design team of Cannon Design, FaulknerBrowns Architects, Arup and Morrison Hershfield. The track is designed by Dale Hughes of WorldRecord Tracks Inc.
