We are saddened to report that a long time member of the Ontario cycling community, Glauco Ceroni, passed away yesterday after an extended battle with cancer. Glauco was 75 years old.
Glauco was a member of the St Catharines cycling club for 30-plus years, and a staunch supporter of young riders. I would always run into him at local races, where we would talk about what was going on. I would also run into him hundreds of kilometres from home at races that he had driven to on his own, just to watch and cheer on Ontario riders. One memory I have is of him excitedly telling me of how he was motorpacing some of the top pros in training at the 2003 Worlds (including, if memory serves correctly, Michael Rogers, the eventual winner).
Ben Perry has an excellent article on his Blog about how Glauco worked with Junior riders, such as himself.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, February 19th between 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm, followed by a service at 7:00 pm. Both will take place at the H. L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main St, Welland. More information and directions can be found Here.
Our condolences to his family.
