On a nice pleasant Wednesday afternoon in Wilmington, Delaware, Mercury's Henk Vogels was on the brink of victory. With 100 meters to go, Vogels pulled out of his pedal and was passed with only 25 meters to go.

The course was new and more technical than in years past. The 3.7 mile circuit figured to be fast with breakaways doomed to failure. But, just like yesterday, the First Union races this year are not following the norm.

With 12 laps to go, Piotr Wadecki (Mroz) took off on a solo journey. 2 laps later he was joined by Mercury's Vogels and Jemison (US Postal). the trio worked well together and had a maximum lead of 2:20. A chase was started by Memory Card, but they were only able to take 20 seconds off the gap. With 2 laps to go, it was clear that the trio were going to stay away. An attack by Wadecki just before the 1 lap to go bell left Jemison behind. It was now a battle of 2.

The duo worked together and Wadecki attacked just inside 1k to go. Vogels quickly caught Wadeki and jumped to a lead which looked like the race winner until the unfortunate mechanical.

Online Registration

We have added registration services for the races at the two Canadian World Cup events - Mont Ste Anne and Canmore. These events are NOT the World Cup races themselves (to enter in those you have to apply through the national federation). However, they are run on the same courses, and the Mont Ste Anne race is part of the Quebec Cup. These races join the Whistler Summer session events, and the Road Nationals. Please note the cutoff dates for each race (and the late entry dates, when fees go up).


Shamoe Becomes a TV Star

We haven't seen the ad yet, but it appears that pro mountain biker Seamus McGrath is about to become a television celebrity. The blond dreadlocked one is apparently the star of a new television ad for Samsung - the Korean electronics giant. Hey Seamus, can you score us a big screen TV?
