Jason Filer, owner of the Winterbourne Bicycle Institute in Guelph, Ontario, passed away on Tuesday after a battle with cancer. Winterbourne began as a custom framebuilding shop, but gradually transitioned into a bicycle mechanic school, and trained over 500 bike shop mechanics. Shimano endorsed the program as the only certification program in Canada. Jason also taught courses through Conestoga College, and worked with the Ontario Ministry of College, Trades and Universities to develop an apprenticeship program.
An article about Jason and Winterbourne in the local Guelph Mercury can be read Here.
Condolences to Jason's family.
