The Speed River Cycling Club regretfully announces the cancellation of the annual Guelph Cross cyclocross race originally scheduled for Sunday, September 29, 2013 in Guelph, Ontario.
We are proud of our 10-year history of hosting fun, challenging, and competitive cyclocross races in Ontario. However, due to changes in the event standards and related costs imposed by the Ontario Cycling Association - and the uncertainty posed by the timing of those changes - it became evident that we could not deliver the great SRCC race experience to which riders have grown accustomed without incurring a substantial financial loss.
Rather than raising entry fees, cutting the prize pool and making other changes that would impact the quality of the event, we determined the best course of action would be to postpone this year’s race. This decision was difficult but is preferable compared to not living up to the expectations and reputation we have established with the cyclocross racing community.
We will be revisiting the framework of our event and look forward to being back on the race calendar in the future.
