Breaking news: Youth categories are IN for 'cross nationals in Surrey Nov 30th
Just got word our lobbying has paid off, at least partly. The organizer wrote last night that there will be a National Championship for junior women (U19) to go along with the men's, at long last.
And there will also be U13, U15, and U17 boys and girls races. The championships are Saturday, and while it's not a full-on national championship for U13-U17, their races are on the championship course with results by age group, and podiums. Exact start groupings are still being decided and will likely depend on entries.
There has been more than 18 months of lobbying Cycling Canada and Cycling BC and this issue contributed to the election of a new board at Cycling BC board last fall. I hope all island youth riders will seriously consider coming to support this great opportunity to promote youth racing and race the same course as Mical Dyck and Geoff Kabush.
There will be racing both days, in slightly different formats. Saturday, the u19 women will race with elite women. Sunday, a UCI calendar event, likely u19 women and u17 women will race together. There is u13-u17 racing both days.
Entry fee is a very reasonable $20 each day or $30 for the weekend. More details will be published shortly here:
And if you want to thank and encourage the organizer, it's new CBC VP Cyclocross Matt Klymson here: matt(at)cyclingbc.net
Age categories will be the UCI 2014 cyclocross age rule.
