It is with great pride that the organizers of the Tour cycliste de l'Abitibi passed the torch to the host town of Amos this morning, in addition to announcing that the Tour de l'Abitibi Desjardins is now back with the UCI Juniors Nations' Cup.

The president of the Tour cycliste de l'Abitibi, Ms. Suzanne Fortin, passed the host town's symbolic torch to Mr. Ulrick Chérubin, mayor of the Town of Amos. "The organization is pleased to present this painting to the Town of Amos. It is a privilege for us to hold the 46th edition in your community and especially during the town's 100th anniversary celebrations", Ms. Fortin said.

The president also took the opportunity to thank the Town of Rouyn-Noranda for having hosted the Tour in the past two years. These two editions achieved great success and allowed the organization to be awarded the title of 2013 National and International Event by the Quebec Cycling Federation.

Following a proposal from the World Cycling Union (UCI), the Tour cycliste de l'Abitibi agreed to bring back the Tour de l'Abitibi Desjardins under the UCI Juniors Nations' Cup. This initiative will allow the organization to continue hosting regional teams or clubs in addition to national teams, for whom the Nations' Cup races are usually reserved. Thus, the Tour de l'Abitibi Desjardins can pursue its mission, which is to contribute to the development of young racers.

The Nations' Cup cycling events are the only ones to offer UCI points allowing nations to access the World Championships. The UCI Juniors Nations' Cup circuit includes seven (7) competitions only. The Tour de l'Abitibi Desjardins will be the only race to be presented outside of Europe, and represents an excellent opportunity for the UCI to develop its circuit outside the European continent thanks to the Tour's strong organization and high caliber of racers.

The 46th Tour de l'Abitibi Desjardins will be held from July 21st to 27th, 2014, in Amos. Holding the highest level of sanction awarded by the World Cycling Union, the reputation of this sports challenge has reached beyond our borders. It now ranks among the most important Junior competitions in the world. Approximately 150 racers participate in the Tour de l'Abitibi Desjardins each year.
