December 13/13 10:52 am - Trek Issues Recall on 2013 Madone Models

Posted by Editor on 12/13/13

Trek Bicycles has issued a recall notice for 2013 models of the Madone series of road bikes. A small number of the bicycle models were made with an attachment bolt, on the front brake quick-release, that could come loose. This could allow the cable clamp to detach and potentially result in the loss of use of the front brake of the bicycle. If this happens, you could have difficulty stopping your bicycle. Trek will replace the front brake on an affected bicycle, free of charge. The affected models are:

2013 Madone 5.2 (standard and WSD)
2013 Madone 5.9 (standard)
2013 Madone 6.2 (standard and WSD)
2013 Madone 6.5 (standard)
2013 Madone 7.7 (standard)
2013 Madone 7.9 (standard and WSD)

This recall involves model year 2013 Trek Madone bicycles with serial numbers starting with WTU and ending with G or H. Some of the recalled models are custom-ordered Project One Madones. The model number is printed on the bicycle frame. The serial number is printed on a sticker underneath the frame of the bicycle. The bicycles were sold in a variety of colors. The bikes, manufactured in Taiwan, the U.S. and Germany, were sold from July 2012 through December 2013. A list of affected bicycle serial numbers can be found at the following website: www.trekbikes.com/ca/en/support/safety_and_recalls.

DO NOT RIDE YOUR BICYCLE UNTIL THE FRONT BRAKE HAS BEEN INSPECTED

If the front brake loses functionality unexpectedly, you could have difficulty stopping your bicycle. Do not ride this bicycle until your retailer has inspected the brake to determine if the attachment bolt is affected by this recall.

If you have any questions, please contact your retailer, or call Trek at the special recall hotline: 800.373.4594
