On September 6, 2014, 500 lucky cyclists will ride the new 152 kilometre GranFondo Forte from Vancouver to Whistler, with a detour up cycling monument Cypress Mountain. Adding over 800 metres of vertical to the RBC GranFondo Whistler route, the Forte will have a total of 2500 meters of vertical gain over the 152 kilometres. This new addition to the RBC GranFondo Whistler portfolio (joining the GranFondo 122 kilometres and Medio 55 kilometres), the Forte has been introduced to celebrate the fifth anniversary of this iconic event.
"We are truly excited about adding the Forte to the 2014 RBC Granfondo Whistler," says Neil McKinnon, founder GranFondo Canada. "It represents a unique challenge for the seasoned rider and places this event as one of the most challenging in North America."
Forte participants will leave one hour before the main GranFondo but will share in all the same benefits like a dedicated cycling lane and fully supported experience. All event categories will celebrate their achievement together at the finish plaza in Whistler where food, entertainment and families await.
In September, GranFondo Whistler announced the addition of the 152 kilometre route and opened early registration. Even without full route details, interest has been strong, with over 300 riders already registering.
The fifth-annual RBC GranFondo Whistler will take place on September 6, 2014. For more information, visit www.rbcgranfondowhistler.com.
