The Christmas break has been a busy one for Ontario Youth racers. Twenty two wide eyed racers took part in the second try-out performance event for the Ontario Rising Star Development Academy on Monday, December 23rd. The Ontario Cycling Association and Canadian Sports Institute Ontario are the main drivers of the Youth program to introduce Road and Mountain bike riders to the benefits of structured training at a Velodrome. Ontario coaches Sean Kelly, Art Adams, Lisa Pulmutter and Rob Fex put the youth riders from Milton, Barrie, Toronto and London through a very tough and enjoyable three hours at the FCV (Forest City Velodrome).
The Rising Star Development Academy is a great way to have youth riders learn the skills required to perform at higher levels of cycling as they mature, with the speed and skills.
The try-out during the Christmas break was the second in the last three weeks, and there are now 40 identified athletes who will be invited back to the Forest City Velodrome for additional testing and training. Over the next two months the riders will begin their preparation for the FCV Youth Championships on Saturday, February 22nd.
