April 3/14 10:21 am - Pendrel Out of Action with Broken Collarbone

Canadian mountain biker Catharine Pendrel will miss at least the first two rounds of the Mountain Bike World Cup after breaking her collarbone in a training accident on Tuesday.  Pendrel first reported the injury through her Twitter feed, posting "The second worst thing about breaking your collar bone on April 1st is having to convince people it's not a bad joke."  Pendrel had a similar injury last season.

According to her Luna Pro team she will not need surgery, but a collarbone injury typically requires six weeks for recovery, and the World Cup begins next week in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, followed two weeks later by Cairns, Australia.  The third round, in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic, isn't until late May, so she could be back in action by then.  The injury comes after a very strong pre-World Cup win at the U.S. Pro XCT race in Fontana, California, last month.

On her Facebook page, Pendrel wrote:  "Thanks for all the notes of support and encouragement. I'm feeling good and way better off than after last year's crash. Looking forward to getting back soon!"
