Today, the cyclists of the Tour de l’Abitibi Desjardins were treated to a very special stage, which took place entirely in Amos. For this sixth and second last stage, the racers rode 9 laps of 11 kilometres through the streets of Amos. This urban circuit allowed several athletes from the teams from Columbia, France, Canada, Denmark, and the United States to break away for a few minutes, before the pack caught them on the corners. During the last lap, the most dominant racers too control and Quentin Valognes (Novo Nordisk) finishing in first place.

The holder of the brown jersey, Rayane Bouhani, earned a second place, insuring him the title of leader of the general ranking for the last stage. In third place, Team Denmark’s Mathias Norsgaard Jorgenson, who was on the podium for the third time, also preserved the blue jersey for best rookie. The orange and polka dot jerseys will not change owners either, being worn once again by Adrien Carpentier and Abderrahim Zahiri on the road from Senneterre to Amos.

  A Well Deserved First Place
Having won two stages in addition to the Sprint Abitibi Challenge is an achievement in itself, but what is even more remarkable in Team France’s Quentin Valogne’s journey is that he suffers from type 1 diabetes. All the Novo Nordisk team is composed of racers suffering from this disease.

Some Inclement Weather
It was raining for more than twenty minutes during this stage, which had the effect of slowing down the racers, making theme more cautious in the corners.  However, despite the fact that the pavement was wet, few crashes occurred, and the athletes preferred rolling at a slower pace. All in all, the 95 kilometre trip took 2 hours and 8 minutes to travel.
