August 27/14 15:22 pm - Tour du Poitou Charente: Stage 2

Posted by Editoress on 08/27/14

OPQS rider Mark Cavendish won his second straight sprint stage, this time at 183.6km Stage 2 of Tour du Poitou-Charentes on Wednesday. The Manx Missile relied on another dominant leadout from his teammates, and launched his sprint for the convincing victory.

Cavendish will wear the leader's jersey once again at 111km Stage 3 on Thursday.

The race came back together after breakaways several times, and the leadout of OPQS maintained good control on the front inside the final 5km of the stage.

The victory of the British rider is the 59th overall for OPQS (57th road) in 2014.

"Once again the team was great," Cavendish said. "They controlled the breakaway and they always stayed with me in the final kilometers. The last kilometer had wide roads with two roundabouts. We took the lead and went through it perfectly. There was a little bit of headwind in the sprint. Mark Renshaw was in the lead, but I let Sebastien Chavanel ( in the middle between me and Renshaw, because I didn't want to start too early. Then, when Renshaw finished the job, I launched and got the victory. I have to thank my teammates for the effort once again. Today we probably executed even better than yesterday, which is pretty impressive considering how brilliant they were in the first stage."
