We have reached the final day of the 2014 Canadian Cyclist Christmas Gift Guide. The number of shopping days is dwindling, but there is one gift you can make, right up until the last minute - support for velodrome programs and projects. Besides offering racing, these venues provide introductory programs to get kids involved in the sport and have clubs associated with them that are open to all.
One of the most obvious ones is the Mattamy National Cycling Centre in Milton, Ontario, which will host the national championships in a couple of weeks, the Pan Am / Parapan Am Games next summer, and become the home of the Canadian national track program. You can make a donation, buy a seat or a board on the track through the Make It Happen program.
However, Mattamy is not the only track you can support. In Ottawa, there is the Ottawa Velodrome Project. In Vancouver there is the Burnaby velodrome, Victoria has the WestShore Velodrome, Calgary has the Glenmore velodrome and Edmonton has the Argyll velodrome, including a project to build an indoor track. The Forest City Velodrome in London, Ontario, has fantastic programs for kids, in Quebec there is the Bromont track, and the Atlantic Cycling Centre also has a track program.
In short, Canada has an extended track presence all across the country, and they deserve your support. All accept donations towards the facility and the programs, so make one in the name of your favourite cyclist.
We hope you have found our Canadian Cyclist Gift Guide useful, and our best wishes for the holiday season.
