Inspired by the Erioca event which graces the rural strade bianche (white roads) of Tuscany, Italy, La Bicicletta announces the Giro Epoca d'Oro retro cycling event.

If you love the sport of cycling as well as appreciate the beauty of its history then you will want to join La Bicicletta on this day as they pay homage to the past. Cyclists on vintage/classic bikes (pre-1987 era) and wearing the garb from a golden era/epoca d'oro of cycling will join together to ride the rural roads of southern Ontario. This will be a social event and group bike ride.

The date: Sunday, May 3rd

The pre-ride breakfast: Prior to the event a light continental breakfast will be available from 8:30am until approximately 10:00am.

The place: Start and finish will take place at Polski Dom, 2711 Shantz Station Road, Breslau, Ontario. This is in the beautiful rural area surrounding Kitchener/Waterloo.

The routes: There will be two routes available: the 55km Gregario Route and the longer 72km Campionissimo Route. Both routes will have "strade bianche" sections! The Gregario Route will have 5 sections totaling 15.3km, and the Campionissimo Route will have 7 sections totaling 19.0km.

The riders on the Campionissimo route will depart at 9:30am and those riding the Gregario route will depart at 10:30am. Both groups will return at approximately 12:30pm. GPS turn-by-turn maps can be downloaded from the route links above. Paper maps with a cue sheet will also be made available.

Equipment: The spirit of the ride is to show off and enjoy your pre-1987 equipment (eg. steel frames, down tube shifters, toe clips and straps, vintage wool clothing), but don't despair if you do not possess this equipment. While many of you may have this type of equipment, some may not. Come with what you have, and enjoy yourself. Helmets are mandatory to ride - no hairnets allowed. 23mm wide tires are OK for the unpaved strade bianche sectors, but 25mm or 28mm tires are recommended.

The post-ride social: From approx 1:00pm onwards, a social get-together will take place with a BBQ with wine and beer. Start to get your own vintage/classic equipment ready for the event and plan to come out and show off your special ride and accessories to others that will really appreciate them.

Event fee: Pre-registration is $65. Online registration is now open. Day-of registration is not being offered. More information is avilable Here.
