Trek has announced that the Farley fat bike line has been extensively revised for the 2016 model year, to be introduced late Summer of 2015.
The Farley, which we reviewed recently [see Trek Farley 6 Fat Bike Review - A Heck of A Lot of Fun], will be available in five models - three with alloy frames and two carbon. The new models have been completely redesigned with 197mm rear spacing, 20mm wider than previous generations, allowing the all-new Farley to accept wider tires without sacrificing pedaling performance.
This means that the Farley will work with both 26" and 27.5" wheels. The 26" wheels will have extra wide 5" tires, while the 27.5" will use 4" tires. The wide 5" tire compatibility offers stability on loose, unimproved surfaces like ungroomed snow or rocky trail, whereas the 27.5" x 4" wheels and tires roll faster on groomed snow trails or dirt singletrack. Riders of the all-new Farley can shred the trails year-round with a fat-bike that can be tailored to meet the demands of their region and their riding style.
All except the entry level Farley 5 will have carbon forks, while the top-end Farley 9.8 is a full carbon frame and fork, including carbon fork steerer tube, for a carbon fork weighing 550 grams and carbon frame at 1300 grams (17.5" frame). The 9.8 comes with a new carbon wheelset, the Wampa. The 9.8 frameset will also be available for sale.
