May 20/15 10:58 am - Giro d'Italia: Stage 11

Posted by Editoress on 05/20/15

For the second day in a row, the early breakaway produced the winner in the Giro d'Italia, where Ilnur Zakarin (Team Katusha) won Stage 11, Forlì - Imola (153km), this afternoon. 53 seconds after the young Russian crossed the line, Carlos Betancur (AG2R La Mondiale) finished second in a Giro d'Italia stage for the fourth time in his career, at the head of a small group of chasers. Franco Pellizotti (Androni Giocattoli - Sidermec) was third, in the same time as Betancur.

Ryder Hesjedal was in the remainder of the break group of 7 that was away all day, finishing 7th after being outsprinted at the line.

With 6.5km to go, the Maglia Rosa, Alberto Contador (Tinkoff Saxo) make an abrupt acceleration which perhaps tested his rivals but led to no change in the overall classification. The winner of Stage 8, Beñat Intxausti (Movistar Team), also joined the breakaway of the day and was rewarded with the Maglia Azzurra.
The other jerseys remain unchanged.
