Cycle Simcoe is pleased to announce the launch of a interactive mobile friendly map.
In 2013 the Barrie/Simcoe Cycling Club, a not for profit organization, received an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant and partnered with the County of Simcoe and Township of Oro-Medonte to develop a test pilot project within the Township of Oro-Medonte. The goal was to improve cycling infrastructure and develop a cycling tourism plan, which could eventually be rolled out County wide. This project became known as 'Cycle Simcoe'.
Thanks to the overwhelming support and success through the Township of Oro-Medonte, Cycle Simcoe was able to rapidly expand to over 12 municipalities and develop three cycling tourism route maps: Heart of Georgian Bay, South Georgian Bay and Ontario's Lake Country. Each map, available in print or online, offers its own flavor of riding: "from crushed gravel rail trail to nationally recognized road cycling routes, cyclists will never run out of variety or options," states Brendan Matheson, Cycling Coordinator for Simcoe County.
Cycle Simcoe is now pleased to present the new interactive mobile friendly website map, listing all the tourism amenities, safe cycling routes, difficulty rating and more. "If you are looking to explore by bike this summer, the Cycle Simcoe interactive map has everything you need to have a safe and enjoyable trip," explains Donna Hewitt, Economic Development, Township of Oro-Medonte.
The new Cycle Simcoe interactive map can be found online by visiting cyclesimcoe.ca/maps. Printed maps are also available at participating business locations within Simcoe County, as well as through Tourism Simcoe County. If you would like a printed copy, please contact Cycle Simcoe or Tourism Simcoe County.
If you have any questions about the project or require help selecting routes, please contact the cycling coordinator: Brendan@barriecycling.com.
Happy cycling, from the team at Cycle Simcoe.
