The Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence (FAEQ) has announced the renewal of sponsorship by Saputo, totaling one million dollars for the next five years. FAEQ has also announced the 43 recipients of the 16th edition of the Saputo Bursary Program, who shared a total of $134,000 in individual scholarships. Included among the recipients is Canadian national road champion Joelle Numainville, who received a $5,000 Support scholarship.
Four types of scholarships were awarded this year:
• 20 Academic Excellence Scholarships to reward academic excellence;
• 21 Support scholarships to academic and athletic success to encourage good balance sports and studies;
• One Perseverance scholarship to recognize the unusual path and determination encountered in the tests;
• One Leadership scholarship to emphasize the amount of sports and academic success coupled with community involvement both important and inspiring.
Saputo is proud to encourage the development of distinguished student-athletes and those over. These young people, who are the models of our society on the national and world stage, greatly deserve support in their quest for success.
The President of the FAEQ, Mr. Claude Chagnon, said: "One of our goals is to increase our annual amount awarded in scholarships to $1.1 - $1.5 million by 2020. This investment of a million dollars certainly is a catalyst for achieving this goal and demonstrates the confidence Saputo has in FAEQ and the Quebec student-athletes."
