December 11/15 18:12 pm - Canadian Cyclist Gift Guide - Part 2

To continue our theme of giving on behalf of your favourite cyclist, today we suggest supporting an aspiring Canadian cyclist by making a donation to one of the many fundraising programs out there.

Earlier today, we published the announcement of the Canadian cyclo-crossers who will be traveling to Europe later this month (and then at the end of January for Worlds). Cycling Canada does not receive government funding for Cyclo-Cross programs. This means all projects are funded through sponsorships, private donations or by the athletes themselves. Any amount donated has a direct impact on the development of this sport in Canada. As a not-for-profit organization, Cycling Canada can issue tax receipts for any donation greater than $25. Please note that all support staff for this project are generously donating their time for free. Please visit the following link to donate: https://hoponcanada.ca/product/cyclo-cross-donation/.

If cyclo-cross isn't your thing, then there are many other Canadian programs and organizations that can use your help.

Cycling Canada often has to do charge backs to athletes on projects to cover some costs that they can't afford. Unfortunately, it is usually the newer members of the national team that get hit first; and they are the ones that often don't have the team support to cover the cost.

Your provincial association is where young riders regularly get their first chance to attend national level events, and they can also use your help. A list of provincial associations can be found Here.

There are also bursaries and scholarships run by organizations such as Seenite Sports in Ottawa and Bridge the Gap. Check with your local club to see if they have a program to help young riders.

The point is, that you can help make a difference in the development of a Canadian rider. And much cooler could it be then to be able to say that you helped one of Canada's next stars get their start?
