This was the best novice race this season. The rider coaches did a great job of keeping everyone in contention. There were some first class moves and it looked like a REAL bike race. Thanks to Jeff Archbold, Peter Penman, Pierre Perrin and Derk Peeling, coaches, and to Peter Hurley for marshalling and cone pick-up.

This Tuesday evening (August 22) sees the popular La Biccicletta Midweek Criterium series make a stop at Toronto's Downsview Park for a special edition that will incorporate Schwinn night. In it's former life, Downsview Park was used as a military airbase and has over the past few years been utilized for movies and commercials. The city of Toronto, led by a world-renowned (and award winning!) design team is moving forward to transform the area into a "Tree City," inspired by the history of Toronto as a city of trees and a city that is making an effort to re-claim it's unused urban landscapes. The "City" is intended to provide, through the use of nature rather than buildings, an array of social and recreational experiences for all Torontonians and will incorporate a network of pathways for walking, cycling, running and cross-country skiing. The design also hopes to feature sustainable technologies for energy production and storm water treatment. It is hoped that this Tuesday's race will highlight the need for a functional area in Downsview Park that competitive cyclists can use without the constant problem of urban traffic and parking hassles. ALL competitive Toronto cyclists are encouraged to attend this event so we can make a statement to the media, the park developers and to everyone else that we belong. Even if you're not racing, come out and enjoy the evening! You could win a Schwinn mountain bike as a draw prize!
