Kokanee 24 Hours of Adrenalin

The Kokanee 24 Hours of Adrenalin now in its seventh year returned to Hardwood Hills, the 2008 Olympic Mountain Bike Site this weekend as 2600 weekend warriors on 450 teams and over 7000 spectators and support crew set up camp at Hardwood Hills.

All teams came with a common goal, have a great weekend and complete as many laps as possible within the 24-hour period of time from Saturday noon to Sunday noon. The event began with the Merrell LeMans, where the lead member from each team ran a 1.5km course before getting on the bikes and hitting the course. The Merrell LeMans Start is not only the most entertaining start to a mountain biking event you will ever see, it also spreads riders out before they get onto the course.

The weekend started with slight rain showers on Friday, which helped eliminate the dry course conditions. For the majority of the weekend the sun was in full effect as the riders made their way around the 22.2km cross-country course. While the days were warm, most riders were not prepared for the cold conditions Saturday night as the temperatures dipped to 9 degrees.

Participants and spectators were entertained over the course of the weekend by TREK Trials rider Rob Healy, from Calgary Alberta as he jumped 10 feet off trailers and over the obstacle course consisting off 45 gallon oil drums, 60" wire spools and volunteers from the crowd.

Local teams from Barrie, Aches and Pains III placed second in the 5 Person All-Female; the Hardwood Hills team won the 5 Person 150-200 Open Age category. In the Solo category, Michael Madden of White Bear Minnesota won the menÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s solo category with 15 laps, Jean-Charles Desforges from Saint Jerome placed second and Brent Thomlinson from Kitchener placed third. In the womenÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s solo category, returning winner from 1999, Heather Johnston from Guelph took first place once again, followed by Joanne Uhlmann from Mississauga in second place and Jennifer Wasylenko-Weber from London placed third. The top 3 men and top female qualified for the World Solo 24 Hours of Adrenalin Championships.
