Component manufacturer SRAM has issued a recall in Canada and the U.S. for three models of Zipp-branded front wheel hubs. The hub flange can fail, posing a hazard that could cause falls or crashes. There have been no reports of incidents or injuries.
The model names of the affected hubs are ZIPP 88v6, 88v7 and 88v8. It can be identified by the Z logo printed on the hub. The wheel hubs come in black, silver and falcon grey. The diameter of the clinch nut is approximately 3.71 centimetres (1.46 inches). Some of the hubs were sold as part of wheel sets installed on new bicycles, while others could have been sold as individual wheels or as part of wheelsets. Approximately 2900 of the affected hubs were sold in Canada (54,000 in the U.S.). The recalled hubs were sold between May 2010 and January 2015 through speciality bike shops.
