July 15/16 10:32 am - Numainville Loses Appeal for Olympic Spot

Canadian road pro Joelle Numainville has announced that she lost her appeal for a position on the Canadian Olympic team for the women's road race.  Generally, these decisions are not published, however, Numainville has spoken out publicly on being left off the team and appealing the decision.

In a release, Numainville, who races for the European squad Cervelo-Bigla and who represented Canada at the 2012 Games, said "I am extremely disappointed with the decision of the arbitrator. It is a heartbreaking decision. It's hard to give up on an Olympic dream. Even today, I am convinced that I could have helped the Canadian team to win medals in Rio."

"Cycling Canada's Olympic Selection Policy is heavily focused on subjective criteria. Unfortunately, those criteria played against me. My team and I have decided not to pursue the appeal with the SDRCC. I will take the next couple of weeks to clear my mind and turn the page on this sad chapter of my career."

The Cycling Canada selection for the women's road race and time trial was Leah Kirchmann, Karol-Ann Canuel and Tara Whitten.  All three will race the road race, with Canuel and Whitten also competing in the time trial.
