We have reports that the mountain bike venue for the Olympic Games is on fire. A controlled garbage burn got out of control after high winds over 90 kmph came up. There was some rain, but it appears to have done little to slow the blaze, which is moving towards the spectator stands and the venue infrastructure. The venue has been evacuated. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
The UCI has issued a statement: "The UCI is aware that there was a fire this afternoon in the vicinity of the Rio 2016 Mountain Bike course. It is understood the fire is now under control. Assessment of any potential impact on the Mountain Bike course will be made tomorrow."
