Cycling BC is pleased to announce the 2017 BC Championship races. Building on the growth and success of our championship races over last two years, Cycling BC will be working closely with event organizers both iconic and new, to present high quality, competitive racing spanning the province.
After a successful year of growth, the BC Elite and Master Time Trial and Road Race Championships will return to the safe hands of Escape Velocity, to be held May 27-28. The time trial championship race will take place on Escape Velocity's classic River Road course on May 27th, while the road race will return to the Atomic Super course in Abbotsford on May 28th. As with the road and time trial events, the BC Criterium Championships will complete the two year cycle, taking place at the Robert Cameron Law Cycling Series at the BC Legislature in Victoria, on June 3rd.
With great success in hosting the Youth Championships as a stand alone event, The BC Youth Time Trial, Road and Criterium Championships will be hosted by Escape Velocity/DEVO with courses in the Greater Vancouver area yet to be released.
New to the calendar this year, both a Cross-Country Marathon (XCM) and Cross-Country Olympic (XCO) format will be offered. The BC Cross-Country (XCO) Championships will be hosted in conjunction with the Canada Cup Finals at Whistler Blackcomb on June 24th, with the following day hosting the kick off to the Downhill BC Cup for a great weekend of racing. The BC Cross-Country Marathon (XCM) Championships will be held on June 17th at the Spakwus 50 in Squamish. This race is the greatly anticipated rebirth of the historic Test Of Metal, which will be part of the new BC Cross-Country Marathon Premier Series.
The BC Downhill Championships will be held July 7th at the iconic Sun Peaks Resort, hosted by Henry Pejril and his experienced team.
The BC BMX Championships will be June 17th at Maple Ridge BMX. As always, the BMX community will be hosting an action packed weekend, with two days of back-to-back racing, as June 18th makes for round five of the BC BMX Premier Series.
Provincial Cyclocross Championships will make the rotation back over to Vancouver Island on November 18th, to be hosted by the talented team at Cross on the Rock at the historic Beban Park in Nanaimo, which was host to the 2006 Canadian Cyclocross Championships.
The BC Track Championships will also be taking a jump over to Vancouver Island, to be hosted by the Greater Victoria Velodrome Association on August 18-20. With changes in the international format for track events, keep an eye out for additional information to ensure some exciting new racing this year.
Additional information for all the BC Championship events will be announced over the season. Cycling BC is looking forward to another successful year of BC Championship racing.
