Women's Road Race - end of lap 8

As the women start their last lap the gap to the lone leader is dropping. Zinaida Stahurskaia (Blr) still leads, but by 1:43 over a group of 4 - Elisabeth Chevanne (Fra), Madeleine Lindberg (Swe), Susanne Ljungskog (Swe) and Priska Doppmann (Sui). Caroline Alexander (GBR) and Dede Demet-Barry (USA) lead the main group, who are another 7 seconds in arrears. Still in that group are defending champion Edita Pucinskaite (Ltu), Mirjam Melchers (Ned), Sue Palmer (Can), Catherine Marsal (Fra) and Tracey Gaudry (Aus). Jeannie Longo-Ciprelli (Fra) has abandoned, and Diane Zilute (Ltu) is a further minute back in the next group. Anne Samplonius (Can) is now 5:27 down (39th) and Erin Carter 42nd (7:48 down).
