Cycling Clubs in the Niagara Region of Ontario have yet again sprinted ahead of the peloton with the launch of their new Niagara Cycling Clubs Alliance (NCCA). The member cycling clubs recognized the need and the importance of having relationships with all the cycling clubs in the Niagara Region and created the NCCA.
The NCCA is composed of the St. Catharines Cycling Club, Amici per la Vita Niagara Cycling Club, Niagara Freewheelers Bicycle Touring Club, Forza Niagara Cycling Club, Energy Cycling Club, Bikefit Sunflowers Cycling Club and the Short Hills Cycling Club, to promote their passion, the sport of cycling. The NCCA boasts of rider membership that well exceeds 1,000 athletes and club memberships are marketed to the general public of all ages and all level of cycling abilities. All NCCA clubs welcome and accept young riders!
St. Catharines Cycling Club President and co-founder of the NCCA, Wally Tykoliz, stated the member clubs are all incorporated, nonprofit and insured athletic clubs and meet regularly to address mutual concerns and ideas about cycling in the Niagara Region. Further, each member club is unique from each other and specializes in the different disciplines cycling and types of rides.
Tykoliz cited, if a cyclist wanted to join a club that trains its members to ride fast and race, the famous racing club, the St. Catharines Cycling Club is to be considered. If mountain biking, off road rides and off road racing is your choice, the Energy Cycling Club leads the way.
Niagara's only mountain biking club exclusively for women, the Bikefit Sunflowers, is a member club that offers a very specialized training program for their women only members. The pioneer club of mountain biking in the Niagara Region is the Short Hills Cycling Club. Any rider who rides a maintained trail in Niagara can be sure the Short Hills Cycling Club membership had a spade and rake in it!
The Amici per la Vita Niagara Cycling Club, "Friends for Life" cycling club, based in Niagara Falls, offers specialized destination rides to their membership. The Forza Niagara Cycling Club provides a fun, friendly, structured ride with an emphasis on skills, development and etiquette for its members.
And finally, Niagara Freewheelers Bicycle Touring Club, boasts their members are the most friendly, kind and absolutely nicest people you would ever want to ride with ... if you can keep up to them!
The NCCA invites all riders and families of all riding levels to participate in their Canada 150 Birthday Ride to be held on July 2nd, 2017. The venue for the Canada's 150 Birthday Ride Celebrations will be at the White Meadow Farms, 2519 Effingham St, Pelham, and the ride's route will be a scenic, winding and rolling route through the fabled vineyards and orchards of the Town of Pelham and vicinity.
The Canada's 150 Birthday Ride will roll out at 8:30 a.m. and, depending on the distance selected by the participant, finish at 11:30 a.m. A BBQ feast and of course a huge birthday cake will reward all the riders and non-riders upon completion. A nominal rider / nonrider participant fee will be collected via a NCCA Canada's 150 Birthday Ride registration website, to be announced soon!
The NCCA is also looking forward to involvement in the 2021 Canada Summer Games' cycling component hopefully to be held in the Niagara Region. The NCCA's peloton of volunteers stands ready to be deployed to support the Canada Summer Games.
