Registration is now open for Jeremy's Roubaix, Hell North of the Fraser, road race. Jeremy's Roubaix is a staple on the BC road cycling scene. Based in the City of Pitt Meadows, it started out 14 years ago as Harris Roubaix, and is now named Jeremy's Roubaix after BC cycling legend Jeremy Storie. The race is based on the spring classic bike race Paris Roubaix, substituting cobble stone roads for gravel dyke paths.
Jeremy Storie was a fixture in BC and Canadian road and track cycling. He mentored and coached many of our county's top cyclists including Steph Roorda, Jasmine Glaesser and Laura Brown of Canada's National Women's Track Endurance team. His work in cycling also included a strong dedication to developing youth cycling and to challenge the system for gender equity. Jeremy died suddenly in February, 2013.
Proceeds from this race will again go to help one of Jeremy's former athletes, 18-year-old, Maggie Coles-Lyster in her pursuit of Gold at the 2017 Junior Road and Track World Championships.
This year's race will include a separate Master Men's category, special pricing for all Junior and Youth riders, plus as much wind and rain Mother Nature can dish up!
We would like to express our thanks to our event partners: Local Ride Racing, Power2Max, TaG Cycling Race Team, Code Sports and the City of Pitt Meadows.
We are still looking for event partners and volunteers to help with this year's race. For more information, contact Barry at localrideracing@gmail.com.
Registration is also open for Race the Ridge and Hatzic Valley Road Race. Race the Ridge will be continuing with its omnium format, and features the return of the Thornhill Road Race and includes a new time trial.
Early registration pricing for Jeremy's Roubaix ends on March 15th. To register and for event information, go to www.localride.ca.
