Canadian pros won the opening day stage of the three day Moab Rocks off-road stage race on Saturday. Catharine Pendrel (Clif Bar) won the women's race, with Geoff Kabush (Scott Sports-Maxxis) taking the men's.
Pendrel, who only rode the first day, won by over two minutes. Americans Marlee Dixon and Jena Greaser took second and third, followed by Canadian cyclo-cross champion Maghalie Rochette (Clif Bar) in fourth. Dixon leads the GC, with Greaser at 18 seconds and Rochette at 52.7 seconds. Canadian Rachel Pageau sits fifth overall at 8:43. The next rider is over two minutes back, so the battle for the overall title is down to these three riders.
In the men's race, Kabush won a tight finish over Ben Sonntag by just 2.2 seconds, with Justine Lindine at 3.5 seconds. Taylor Lideen, in third for most of the race until suffering a flat, was fourth, 37.2 seconds back. The race is down to these four, with fifth nearly four and a half minutes back.
