2001 Team News

The following are updates on what selected riders and teams are expected to do for 2001. Because many Canadian teams do not finalize sponsorship and rider information until February, some of it may change.

Peter Mazur

The Junior World Champion sent us the following update:

In 2001 I am riding in Belgium for Kortrijk Groeninge Spurters - the best amateur team in Belgium. In 10 days I will be leaving to Italy for a training camp with the Mapei Quick-Step Pro Team which will be in Tuscany. At the same time I will sign a contract with Mapei for the 2002-2003 seasons.


Team Volkswagen

The team continues to focus on Espoir riders and will race in Quebec and the northeastern USA.

Jet Fuel

Sponsorships are still being firmed up, but Jet Fuel will be back as a UCI Tier III pro team, doing the Ontario/Quebec/NE US circuit, BMC races, First Union, Beauce and the new SF race in September. What's confirmed, as of now:

Likely returning riders: Joe Giuliano, Josh Hall, Charlie Gorman, Dan Maggiacomo, Jason Crookham, Kevin Field, Heath Cockburn

New: Dominique Rollins and two more Quebec guys. Potential for two or three more depending upon sponsorship.

Departing: Andrew Randell-7up, Dirk Friel-Zaxby's


Heather Cole

This national team roadie is switching to mountain biking, riding for the California Soulcraft team. She will be racing Sea Otter, the Napa World Cup and the Norba national series.
