Rocky Mountain Bicycles has issued a recall of three 2018 mountain bike models due to a brake housing problem that could be a crash hazard. The bikes involved were sold in Canada and the U.S., and are the 2018 Altitude, Instinct and Pipeline, in both carbon and aluminum models - in total, 16 different models. The brake cable housing was not secured properly during manufacturing, which can cause brake failure, posing a crash hazard to the rider. No incidents or injuries have been reported, as of December 20, 2017. Approximately 1800 units were sold in Canada (plus another 1300 in the U.S.) between June 2017 and December 2017.
Consumers should stop using the recalled bicycles immediately and contact an authorized Rocky Mountain dealer for free inspection and free repair.
For more information, consumers may contact Rocky Mountain Bicycles by telephone toll-free at 1-866-522-2803 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, by email or online and click on Safety/Recall at the bottom of the page.
