Sean Carter of BikeBike in Calgary (a Canadian Cyclist Best Bike Shop) has teamed up with Ben Cowie at the London Bicycle Cafe to launch the first of what is hoped to become an annual event - Bike Store Day in Canada. They have picked March 24th to be the first date.
Bike Store Day was conceived in 2017 at a gathering of independent bike store owners and employees as a way to celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture surrounding the hundreds of independently owned bike stores in Canada. Originally conceived by Carter, Sean was inspired by Record Store Day in the music industry, and thought the one-day event was perfect for the bike industry, too.

We agree, and hope lots of LBS (Local Bike Shops) join in to help this initiative develop across the country.
The purpose of Bike Store Day is to showcase all that small bike businesses do to support their local communities. Each bike store decides how to celebrate, whether that be through a sale, an event, a product release/launch, workshops/clinics, bike rides or city tours. What your store makes of Bike Store Day is limited only by your imagination.
