The Blue Mountains Gran Fondo Road Race (Saturday June 16th) and the Time Trial (Thursday June 14th) return for 2018 as the sole Canadian qualifier events for the 2018 UCI Gran Fondo World Series. The events were formerly called the Grey County Road Race and Time Trial.
In 2011 the UCI created the UCI World Cycling Tour (UWCT) as a series of UCI-sanctioned races held all over the world. In 2016 the event series was been renamed to the UCI Grand Fondo World Series. There are 14 qualifier events where the top 25% in each age group qualified for the Amateur World Championships and the champions are awarded with the coveted rainbow jersey.
The Blue Mountains Gran Fondo events take place at The Blue Mountains in Ontario, which is located at the southern end of Georgian Bay just outside of Collingwood. The Blue Mountains are located 126 kilometres north of Toronto's main airport (Pearson); less than two hours of driving time.
