Gent to Lokeren, Belgium - 200km

Michele Bartoli "found his legs", and defeated the Belgians (who have been beaten in the Volk only 5 of the 55 years of its history) on their home ground. At 400m Daniele Nardello (Ita - Mapei) launched a lead out sprint for his teammate Bartolli who easily defeated Van Dijck.

Bartoli returns to the podium after a serious fall in 1999 that put his career in jeopardy, and is looking forward to the World Cup season.
