Reporting to the Supervisor, Track Cycling & Events, this part-time position is responsible for ensuring all cycling participants experience a safe and enjoyable environment when attending a Town of Milton drop-in cycling program or private track cycling experience. This position enforces safe riding practices and anticipates and reacts to customer concerns. During private rentals, this role ensures safe and logical skills progressions based on athlete experience and desired outcomes. This position works variable hours including some evenings and weekends.
Major Job Responsibilities
• Work with Supervisor to plan and deliver structured cycling sessions to meet the needs of the session or program level
• Present and coach technical cycling skills and knowledge both on and off the track to participants
• Coach and mentor cycling participants during structured training sessions or programs
• Modify and adapt the technical, physical and mental session demands to meet individual participants' abilities and needs
• Provide a safe and well-supervised session environment
• Create and supervise a positive atmosphere for participants to actively participate and excel
• Align and prepare equipment requirements where necessary
• Maintain a safe, clean facility; includes proper usage and storage of equipment and inspecting riding surface before every session; communicate deficiencies to appropriate staff
• Evaluate situations for potential risks and proactively take action to address
• Report any accidents, incidents, concerns or site damage to supervisor
• Maintain and submit attendance records
• Submit all required forms ensuring accuracy and completeness of information
• Establish positive relationships, clear communication channels and work cooperatively with all staff and participants
• Provide excellent customer service and suggestions to Supervisor on ways to enhance the customer experience
• Attend and participate in mandatory staff functions: training, meetings and allocated program times
• Performs duties associated with the Bicycle Mechanic position and Track Cycling Facilitator as required
• Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with department objectives
Education and Experience
• Two (2) years' experience in coaching/program instruction
• Track cycling experience is required
• Post-secondary degree/diploma in Kinesiology, Sports Science or related field is an asset
• NCCP Community Initiation - Trained
• National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Certification Competition Development – Certified or In Training
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level "C"
• HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development an asset
• Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
• Comprehensive understanding of the cycling specific Long Term Athletic Development pathway
• Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
• Discretion, tact and mature judgment is required
• Effective organizational, time management and problem solving skills
Starting Hourly Rate: $26.73
