Cycling BC is pleased to announce that it will host the 7th Annual Evening of Champions fundraising gala on Thursday, October 3, 2019, at the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre. As Cycling BC's flagship fundraising event, the gala was created to raise money for Cycling BC's high performance athlete development, iRide school programs, and to celebrate Cycling BC's community of athletes, coaches, corporate sponsors, members, and champions of the sport.

"This will be our last Gala before the 2020 Summer Olympics in Japan and we are excited to bring the sporting community together to celebrate the past year's successes but we also want to get everyone excited about the upcoming Olympic Games," said Erin Waugh, Executive Director of Cycling BC. "The Gala raises funds for youth cycling programming for over 10,000 kids across the province and gives BC's athletes opportunities to achieve their full potential, and who knows, maybe one day win an Olympic medal. This is all made possible thanks to the support of people who share an impassioned commitment to youth and sport in BC."
Canadians have had success in cycling at the Olympics in the past including BC athletes who had podium finishes at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. Catharine Pendrel from Kamloops won a bronze medal in Women's Cross Country Mountain Biking, Georgia Simmerling along with Jasmin Duehring from Vancouver were both on the bronze medal winning Women's Team Pursuit (Track Cycling), and Cranbrook's Tristen Chernove won gold, silver and bronze medals at the Paralympic Games.
This year's Gala will celebrate past and future champions of the sport and will feature a stand-up reception, silent auction, special guest presentations, and an opportunity to meet some of Canada's top athletes. Each attendee will also receive a collection of fantastic swag items from Cycling BC's sponsors. Proceeds from the event will go to support Cycling BC's programs including High Performance & Athlete Development as well as the iRide youth program for 2020 and beyond.
