May 29/19 13:32 pm - New Leaders at Crossroads Tremblant DH & XC Canada Cup

After an almost two month break, the Canada Cup national mountain series resumed on May 25-26 with Crossroads Tremblant, at Mont-Tremblant, Quebec.  The first round of the Downhill (DH) series and the second for the cross-country (XCO) brought riders from across Canada and around the world.

"Crossroads Tremblant once again provided a spectacular stage for some of North America's top DH and XC racers to battle for UCI points and the coveted Canada Cup Leader's jerseys," said Josh Peacock, Events Manager at Cycling Canada.  "Downhillers were treated to a top-notch course that got even gnarlier with the addition of heavy rain leading into the Junior and Elite events.  Spectators were treated to a show with no shortage of swaps in the Hot Seat throughout the day.  Sunday's XC was also a fan favourite, with an explosive start area located in the heart of Tremblant village leading into a course full of fast, technical single track.  The UCI Junior Series component of the event attracted riders from as far as New Zealand and South Africa targeting valuable UCI points.  We are thrilled at the growth of the Crossroads festival and are already looking forward to returning in 2020."

In heavy rain, Quebec's Hugo Langevin became the first Elite man to don DH leader's jersey with his win on Saturday ahead of Patrick Laffey (Devinci) of B.C., who was the top Junior rider.  In the women's competition, American rider Mazie Hayden (Competitive Edge/Pivot Cycles) took the top spot ahead of Marilyne Proulx (Pittstop Velo Cafe) of Quebec.

With most of Canada's top XC riders in Europe for the World Cup, new Series leaders were decided in almost every category.  Continental cyclo-cross champion Maghalie Rochette dominated the Elite women's race, while Emily Unterberger (Pendrel Racing) moved into the overall lead by finishing second, combined with her 11th place at Round 1 in Bear Mountain, B.C.

In the Elite men, American riders swept the top three spots, led by Nicholas Lando (Bear Pro Team).  Felix Burke took the leader's jersey after finishing fifth, combined with his 14th place at Bear Mountain.

In the Junior categories, American riders won both, with Madigan Munro (Team USA) winning the women's and Riley Amos (Team USA) the men's.  Munro took over the women's leader's jersey, while Team USA team mate Bjorn Riley becomes the men's leader.

The U17 categories saw some exceptional performances by U15 riders, who were allowed to 'ride up' in the older age group.  Ian Ackert (Hardwood Next Wave), a U15 rider, won the men's race by nearly a minute, while Xavier Gagnon (Dalbix Siboire) leads the standings.  Nicole Bradbury (NCCH Elite p/b MGCC) took her second straight win in the women's category to hold onto the jersey, followed by two U15 riders, Hardwood Next Wave team mates Ava and Isabella Holmgren.
