World‚s Site

Finally, after months of waiting for the UCI to approve schedules, we have a site up and running for the Mountain Bike World Championships! You can get to the site by either clicking on the logo at the top of our homepage, or by going to http://www.mtbworlds.com. This site will be changing regularly from now on - new information about the World‚s, as it becomes available - and updates through the season on how the top riders are doing in the World Cup series.


Wedge Top-10

Even though Canadian cyclo-cross champion Peter Wedge (Kona) had to miss the final event in the U.S. Super Cup `Cross Series, his results earlier in the series were good enough to give him a 10th place overall. The series was won by Jed Fox (Bontrager) of Oregon.


Queen‚s Park Race Back

If you frequent the Forum area, this will be old news: Curt Harnett has managed to find the sponsors and convince the City of Toronto to allow him to put on a race at Queen‚s Park in downtown Toronto. Some of you may remember the very successful races held on this 2 kilometre oval in the late `80‚s and early `90‚s - such stars as Sean Kelly and Steve Bauer took part. In Curt‚s own words, this is what will happen at the end of May:

I have been working for months on getting things organized here, and I finally can commit something.

For those of you who don't know, I have been attempting to ressurect the ol' Queen's Park Grand Prix. We have had a title sponsor for awhile but what we didn't have is a date - too many conflicts and too many permits needed. Anyway, that is a problem no more!

Men's 60 k crit, Women's 40 k crit,
plus men's/women's 10k wheelchair and men's/women's 15k/10k in-line.

We Want Your Comments

We are in the process of putting together a completely new look for Canadian Cyclist Online, and we want your feedback on something: we have been approached by some companies about putting surveys up on our site, so that they can gather information for their product development and marketing efforts. Naturally, they would pay us for these surveys, which would assist with the operating costs of running this site. So, our question to you is this: would you be willing to participate in such surveys if they appeared on our pages? Rest assured that all surveys would be completely anonymous (with the possible exception being when giveaways are offered to participants). Please let us know what you think.


Calendars and Teams

We are beginning to receive Provincial Calendars - if you have access to your provincial calendar, please send it in, or let us know where we can get. The same is true for teams - let us know about your `98 lineup!


Hayes Brakes in Canada

Outdoor Gear Canada, a Montreal-based distributor, has announced that they will be distributing Hayes Disc Brakes in Canada in 1998. Hayes brakes are highly regarded by many, and now that they have a Canadian distributor are likely to be more readily available in this country. OGC will also handle parts for Hayes in Canada, and say that they will have inventory by the end of this month (maybe a little later, since they are in Montreal...).
