Canadian pro Alex Cataford has been re-signed by Israel Cycling Academy for a second season in 2020, the team just announced. The team recently announced that it will join the WorldTour next year [subject to UCI approval - see Israel Cycling Academy to Join WorldTour].
Cataford's season came to an abrupt end when he was found to have fractured ribs from a crash in the Tour of Croatia last week. Cataford is the second Canadian ( See Piccoli Signs with Israel Cycling Academy ) whose signing has been confirmed for 2020. Ben Perry will not be re-signed, and Guillaume Boivin's status has not been announced.
On the team Facebook page:
Alex experienced a season full of highlights but also painful crashes this season that halted what looked like great momentum.
The last one - a series of crashes in Tour Of Croatia has brought him down but as usual with this tough kid - he never caved in and went back full force for a breakaway.
But a few days ago, he had to be rushed to the hospital and x rays revealed that he suffers from fractured ribs. That means: season over for him.
But the good news: Alex showed enough progress and promise to deserve a contract extension and he will race with us next season.
Alex: "I had a great first season with ICA, I learned at lot being thrown into the deep end of European racing, and am happy with how I came out on the other side. Was a great year shared with a great team. Looking forward a some exciting times ahead."
