October 26/19 15:55 pm - Bridge the Gap Accepting 2020 Grant Applications

Global Relay's Bridge the Gap (GRBTG) Fund is pleased to announce it is accepting applications for 2020 elite rider funding as well as for youth club seeding grants. Established in 2012, the goal of the fund is to support the development of road cyclists from youth to professional ranks.

Since its launch, GRBTG has played an integral role in the development of Canadian road cyclists by assisting over thirty riders in obtaining professional trade team contracts on teams from around the world. This year it celebrated its first male alumni to reach the UCI World Tour, with Alex Cataford and the Israel Cycling Academy Team. The fund also saw program alumni Alison Jackson joining the world's Number 2 ranked Team Sunweb for 2020.

The fund continues to work hard upstream to grow the sport among youth. In 2015, it launched its youth club seeding grants program in an effort to bolster young rider initiatives in the country and ultimately increase the number of kids involved in racing. This program has supported six youth clubs nationally and looks to expand its reach in 2020. Since 2017 the fund has also been a strong supporter of the Hayman Classic youth race in Penticton, British Columbia.
