Denmark smashed the world record in the men's Team Pursuit qualifying with a time of 3:46.579, 1.433 seconds ahead of the previous record. All four of the top qualifying teams rode under 3:50, pointing to the level of competition in the lead up to the Olympics. The Canadian squad of Michael Foley, Derek Gee, Adam Jamieson and Jay Lamoureux set a time of 3:54.469 to finish 11th and did not qualify for the next round.
"It's definitely tough and disappointing for us," admitted Derek Gee. "It might of been our fastest ever qualifier; last year at Worlds we did this time in the first round and it got us through to the bronze medal final. So the game has changed and we are going to have to find a way to adapt to that. We're improving, but not fast enough."
"It's unbelievable to see the gains that are being made across the sport; on the men's and women's sides times are getting faster and faster. So we just have to regroup after that ride and find a way to get our team there."
