March 1/20 11:50 am - Canadian Olympic Track Quota Looking Clearer

After the conclusion of the Track Worlds today in Berlin, Germany, the situation for Canadian spots in the track events at Tokyo is looking clearer.  While it won't be official until the UCI publishes the quotas, this is what it looks like Canada will get on the track:

Women's Team Pursuit
Women's Omnium
Women's Team Sprint
Women's Sprint
Women's Keirin
Men's Team Pursuit
Men's Sprint
Men's Keirin

Unfortunately, it looks like we will not get a men's Omnium spot, despite Derek Gee finishing 12th.  The quotas also include a provision for making sure that each continent has a spot, so South Africa 'bumped' Canada to include Africa in the list.  Canada is the first alternate for the spot, but it is unlikely that any country will turn down their spot.

We unexpectedly received a spot for both men's Sprint and Keirin after some other nations we were competing against did unexpectedly poorly at the Worlds.
