Cycling Canada has released their latest update to the national calendar. The biggest news is the cancellation of Cross-country (XCO, at Hardwood Ski & Bike, Ontario), Downhill (DHI, at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, BC) and Marathon (XCM, at St-Félicien, Quebec) national championships for 2020.
In a statement, the national federation said: "Cycling Canada has consulted with each of the above local organizing committees extensively to review all relevant information regarding the decision to cancel these events, and supports these difficult decisions to cancel. For all of the above-listed cancelations, we are happy to announce that each of these organizations will plan to return to the National events calendar in 2021, with final dates to be confirmed in the coming months."
The federation has listed planned dates for the remaining Championships, with Road (Elite/Junior/Para) and BMX to take place in September, and both Cyclo-cross and Track in November. They also said that the Road Nationals September dates are tentative, as they try to move it to those dates from the previously planned August dates - it would require fitting them in around the Quebec and Montreal WorldTour races (September 11-13) and the world championships (September 20-27), where top Canadian riders in Junior/Under-23/Elite riders are expected to participate (assuming that event takes place as planned).
Canadian Road Championships (Elite/Jr/Para) - Georges, QC - September 2020*
Canadian BMX Championships (Calgary, AB) - September 5-6, 2020
Canadian Cyclo-cross Championships & Bear Crossing GP UCI C2 (Langford, BC) - November 21-22, 2020
Canadian Track Championships (Elite/Jr/U17/Para/Masters) - Milton, ON - November 26-30, 2020
Not included in the statement is the cancellation of every remaining national level domestic event - all of the Mountain Bike and BMX Canada Cup series, the Tour de l'Avenir Makadence, and the Day of the Hour in Milton.
