We are very sorry to report that former Olympic cyclist Brian Chewter of Hamilton and Simcoe, Ontario, passed away on July 26th, due to cancer, at the age of 66. Chewter was a member of the Canadian team at both the 1972 Munich Olympics and the 1976 Montreal Games, competing in the Road Race and 100 kilometre Team Time Trial both times.

He was only 18 years old at the Munich Games, finishing 52nd in the road race and 23rd in the TTT with team mates Gilles Durand, Jack McCullough and Tom Morris. At the Montreal Olympics he did not finish the road race, and the TTT squad, consisting of Chewter, Morris, Marc Blouin and Serge Proulx, were 16th.

He retired from cycling soon after the Montreal Games to join the family plastering business before opening his bike shop, Central Cycle, in Hamilton. He retired in 2018 to Simcoe.

A private family service will be held at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. A celebration of life event or memorial bike ride will be held at a later date to be determined.
