With health and safety front of mind, Cycle Toronto is shifting its flagship fundraiser, the Ride for Safe Streets presented by Bike Law, to become a "virtual" ride. Ride anytime during the Ride for Safe Streets week between Saturday, September 19th, and Sunday, September 27th. Register now and fundraise: Register to ride
2020 has seen the biggest roll out of cycling infrastructure in Toronto's history thanks to Cycle Toronto's relentless advocacy. With nearly 40 kilometres of new bike lanes plus major roads open on weekends for active transportation there has never been more safe places in Toronto to ride, but much of this progress is set to expire - weekend road openings on Lake Shore Boulevard W & E and Bayview Avenue are poised to stop at the end of September and most of the new bike lanes' fates will be decided in Fall 2021. Will they remain or will they be ripped out? Join the Ride for Safe Streets to help make sure Toronto does not revert to its pre-pandemic ways.
The pandemic has exposed considerable inequities in our city and our transportation network. Cycle Toronto must adapt to meet these challenges; we are reviewing our own policies and structure to ensure that we don't contribute to the inequity in the city. If we hit our fundraising goal of $30,000 it will be a big step toward making sure that more transportation options are available throughout the city and riding a bicycle is part of Toronto's social and economic recovery. We need to build on our past success to make these changes permanent and continue to expand our advocacy, education, and encouragement work beyond the core. Toronto deserves an equitable transportation network to give people a real choice in how they travel.
We need your support.
